Book theme songs

So, i know this was one of the T5W topics but since i missed it, i thought i’d do it anyway so here it is!

1.  Photograph by Ed Sheeran | Me Before you

Loving can heal, loving can mend your soul

And it’s the only thing that I know, know

I swear it will get easier,

Remember that with every piece of you

Hm, and it’s the only thing we take with us when we die

I chose this because well, first of all it’s in the movie so I guess this is a bit of a cheat but really though, there’s a reason this song was put in the movie. It perfectly describes Louisa and Will’s relationship and also, ahem, that last line.

 2.  Blue by Troye sivan | Aristotle and Dante

I know you’re seeing black and white

So I’ll paint you a clear blue sky

Without you I am colour-blind

It’s raining every time I open my eyes

I know you’re seeing black and white

So I’ll paint you a clear blue sky

Without you I am colour-blind

It’s raining every time I open my eyes

I want you

I’ll colour me blue

I don’t really know how to describe this without spoiling anything but… you know. I guess this is more of dante’s song though.

 3. Spectrum by Florence + The machine | The Raven Cycle

And when we first came here

we were cold and we were clear

With no colors in our skin

‘Til we let the spectrum in

I don’t really know why I put this here but this suited TRC best so..

4. Counting stars by One republic | The mortal instruments

Old but I’m not that old

Young but I’m not that bold

And I don’t think the world is sold

I’m just doing what we’re told

And I feel something so right by doing the wrong thing

And I feel something so wrong by doing the right thing

I could lie, couldn’t I, couldn’t I?

Every thing that kills me makes me feel alive.

This song has stuck with me as the song that describes TMI, or just even the whole shadowhunter chronicle, the best. I mean, they’re all rebellious teens who always do the “right” thing by doing the exact opposite of what the law says. ‘The law is hard, but it is the law.’ My ass.

 5. Fight song by Rachel Platten | Harry potter

I’ll play my fight song

And I don’t really care if nobody else believes

‘Cause I’ve still got a lot of fight left in me

Ok, I know. This might come off a little cheesy but hey, it’s impossible not to be emotional when you think of what harry went through while listening to this song. I mean, there were quite a lot of times when nobody believed in Harry except a select few yet he kept on fighting anyway because he knew it was for the good of everyone even if they didn’t believe in him. Cue the tears.

So, do you guys have any playlists for certain books? I’d love to know them too!

Also, i know the gif i used for aristotle and dante features two white boys instead of mexican but i didn’t know what gif to use for them so i decided to just go with a gif from troye’s music video.

Until then,

Characters I defend // T5W

It’s been a long time since i’ve done a post. I’m so horrible at these, i know, and i’m always giving out excuses so i won’t be able to promise when the next time i’ll post be because life’s just extremely busy right now. So many things happening, especially with my ticket to getting out of high school dawning nearer and nearer everyday, so i am terribly sorry. I’d probably get better at this whole blogging thing when school finally ends or so i hope.

I decided to do this week’s top five Wednesday because it’s a topic i would love to indulge myself in. I’d probably do a jolly good job rambling on about these characters, so without further a due, let me present to you the top five characters i’ll defend until the very end  (thumbs up if you got that reference)

1) The marauders (minus peter rattigrew)

I think this one’s a no-brainer considering my username and everything consists of, well, them. They’re just my ultimate favorites and i don’t see any reason at all to hate on them. OK, i know everyone is entitled to their own opinions and deserve a chance to express them, i do respect different opinions but that doesn’t mean it’s not wrong so….

2) The TID gang

For starters, why would anyone even ever have a problem with Jem The Angel Carstairs? He’s a literal angel, he even has silver hair and all, like come on! “Boring” you say? I think his character is just as complex as will’s character, he is supposed to be the opposite of will to keep will grounded. And while we’re on the topic of Will Also an Angel Herondale, it’s not very hard to love him. Yeah, he was an arse at the start and it’s wrong no matter what excuse he has, but he did have his reasons and it wasn’t like he was an arse for the sake of being an arse. Give the guy a break, he’s been through hell yet he still puts the sake of others before him. Don’t even get me started on Tessa, Charlotte, Sophie and even Jessamine. I WILL DRAG YOU.

3) Raven Reyes

This one’s a bit different because yes, i know The 100 is also a book series, but i’m referring to the TV show Raven so i’m not entirely sure if she’s the same in the books and in the tv show but either way, RAVEN REYES IS MY SWEET, PRECIOUS CHILD WHO NEEDS TO BE PROTECTED AT ALL COSTS AND I SHALL DEFEND HER TILL THE VERY END. She’s gone through so much and lost so many people yet she’s still this strong, extremely smart badass who has saved the day SO. MANY. TIMES. Like, yeah Clarke and Bellamy are the leaders who comes up with the ideas and all but let’s be honest, so many of the situations they were in wouldn’t have been solved if not for Raven.

4) Pynch

I don’t think i’ve seen anyone outright hate on Ronan and Adam, i don’t think anyone dares to honestly, but also because why would you hate them? Who hurt you so much for you to hate them tbh? i just don’t see any reason to, really.

5) The women in Star wars

Remember that time people tried to make Rey a mary sue,, yeah you can bet i hopped on the rey defense squad pretty fast because WHY does it seem so impossible for a woman to be strong and smart enough to be a quick learner? All these “reasons” for calling Rey a mary sue literally applies to Luke and Anakin but oh no, it’s natural for them because they’re guys is it now? Don’t even argue on me on this. I have a whole thread to debunk this whole rey is a mary sue concept. Don’t even get me started on Leia who got slutshamed for being jabba’s slave when she tried to save han and Padme, the queen of my heart. They’re all such strong, inspiring individuals (Despite the whole incest thing) who deserve just as much recognition as the men, really.

Ok, so as you can see, my indecisiveness seeped right through this whole post. I can’t even choose just one character each.. It’s not that easy when you love so many characters who need defending ok! (Although all of these characters could very easily defend themselves but still,,) Also, you might notice that i’m lacking in gifs and photos in this post and i’m very sorry about that but i’m using another laptop and i can’t figure out for the life of me how to add media because for the reason, i just can’t upload any? I’ll try again in the future though!

That’s all i have for today so,

Scardust Review

Blurb :

Dead Rock, Texas, 2037

Raleigh Williams made a promise to his brother before he died, that he’d scatter his ashes on Mars. Desperate to leave a life of bad memories behind and start over in the Martian colony, Raleigh fully intends to keep that promise. But his plans are thwarted when a meteor near-misses him in the desert, and Raleigh finds in its crater not debris or even a spacecraft, but a man covered in swirling scars and with no memory of who he is. At least he looks like a man—a man Raleigh can’t seem to keep his eyes off of—but whenever they touch it ignites a memory swap between them.

Raleigh agrees to help Meteor Man piece together his life through their cosmic connection. But the memory share goes both ways, and Raleigh becomes inexplicably entangled with a guy who is everything he needs—everything good that Raleigh is not—but might not even be human. As their minds and worlds collide, reality unravels and Raleigh must face a painful truth, one that could shatter his dreams of finding love, reaching Mars, and fulfilling his brother’s last wish.

I know, i know. This was on my january TBR but i only finished it yesterday. One fact you should know about me is that i take atleast a month or more to finish an ebook compared to a physical book which i can finish in less than week. However, this book is going to be released tomorrow (i’ll post the links of where you can buy it online later, don’t worry!) so i thought what better time to post this review than now, right? So here’s the long-awaited non-spoilery review of Scardust by Suzanne van Rooyen.

P.S I got this book in an Advanced ebook format from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. All opinions stated below are my own honest opinions and this is in no way sponsored.

I rated it 3.5 🐳 / 5 🐳

To start things off, i just want to say that i really did enjoy this book especially the last half of it where there was a lot happening and a lot of questions and mysteries finally being answered and solved but the reason why i rated it a 3.5 instead of a 4 (which i actually initially did) or a 5 even is because i took quite a long time to read it so i wasn’t really so invested in the book, you feel me? Like i don’t feel much connection towards it but i really did enjoy it. I do think part of the reason why i didn’t enjoy this book as much is because a lot of things were also happening in real life so i was too busy to care much of the book and only read it when i was really bored or had nothing to do, and also the format it was in. I swear, the amount of time i take to finish an ebook could have been spent on atleast two or more physical books.

The plot was interesting enough. It wasn’t mindblowingly good or unique but it was interesting to watch how things played out.

I loved how the book not only dealt with a main homosexual couple, but also heavier topics like dealing with the loss of a loved one and (TAG WARNING) rape of a man & the repercussions of it and the stigma around men getting raped). The whole memory-swapping thing was very clever too, i liked how it both created complications and brought the characters closer. The plot twists were foreshadowed and abit confusing at times but it still shocked me in a good way because i really had no idea what was going on at that time, i just wanted to keep reading. It did kind of maybe tiny little bit broke my heart because… you know. Spoilers.

Nonetheless, this was me most of the times.

As for the characters, i thoroughly enjoyed it more than the plot. I really liked the characters. I can’t say i love raleigh but he’s a precious sinnamon roll that i want to just protect and give a hug and comfort especially after everything he’s been through, you know? he doesn’t deserve all this shit to happen to him. He’s pretty darn strong to have lived through all of it.. i would’ve gone mental, honestly, if i were in his position. His character development overall was pretty great and i liked the contrasts in his personality.

I loved crow, i did. I really did. He’s great, so precious, so smol, so adorable. I love crow. But i do have to admit, i was this gif @ him during the duration of the whole book.

He was adorably sweet but also sort of shady because we didn’t know much of his background and i did wish we could’ve known more about jeremy, but hey. He’s a great guy and he really did help raleigh in many ways. He did sort of break my heart somewhere at the end though. Sort of. (It felt like one small piece of my heart broke off but it’s ok. I’m fine. Really.)

I liked how Madison was as a big sister to Raleigh and how much she cared for him, the part where she would divorce her husband if he touched Raleigh touched me. Abi was a nice side character too as the bestfriend. She’s like, the one who puts the sense in Raleigh but also cares a lot for him and i don’t know. I just like how they all care about Raleigh and are very protective of him, even if it’s at the expense of crow. I didn’t like dale very much though like i know he’s just trying to protect his family and all, but i just don’t like him. And it’s very easy to say that i hate the twins, how could you not? I don’t know how much cruelty can be in a person ugh.

Then there’s the whole sexual tension between Raleigh and Crow the whole entire first half of the book where they just keep thinking of each other but neither really does anything. Like, i just love how initially they were all like

and then

Yeah. The amount of gay love. I love it. I just love it a lot.

The ending was okay though i don’t know how to talk about it without spoiling it sooo, i’ll just end it with that.

I would recommend this for people who are looking to diversify their reading and are also interested in sci-fi, i think you’d enjoy this book too.

If you’re interested, go on ahead and purchase it in Amazon or the publisher’s site.

If you have read it too, just comment down below what you think or recommend me more books to read.

Until next time,

T5w – Favourite Buzz Words

So, as you can see from the title, today’s blog post will be on the T5w of the week. I know it’s not Wednesday anymore and i’m a little off the supposed date BUT! The important thing is i am here now and i have come to take part in my first T5W.

This week’s topic is on Favourite buzz words, or basically words that are used to describe a book that is a guarantee buy for you. Initially, i had some trouble choosing but eventually, once i got hold of one buzzword, it was hard to narrow it down to just five but i made it work somehow so all’s good. Anyway, before i go totally off topic and start blabbering, i’ll move on with this.

1) Super Powers

I just absolutely LOVE anything that has to do with super powers like normal people discovering they have super powers or finding that their loved one has a super power and stuff like that. Yeah, i just think that it’s so cool and it’s always got me hoping that i, one day, would discover i have super powers too.

(Some examples of these would be any comic really, or any YA books like Miss peregrine’s Home for peculiar children)

I recently read Aristotle and Dante discover the secrets of the universe and i just. It gave me so much emotions and made me just fall right into the urge and need to read books that include LGBT main characters and just anything that has to do with it. I love it especially when it’s explicit and not just beating around the bush.

3) Boarding schools / Just school setting in general

I think the first book i read that had a boarding school setting was Malory towers but of course, Hogwarts is one that everyone would know of. I just think that stories set in school are usually very contemporary and all fluffy or just something i can actually relate to because you know, i’m still in school. Not for hogwarts though, i would really love to go there.

4) Dark/Heavy topics

giphy (1)

By dark or heavy topic, i mean those that deal with tough issues that happen in real life like,

depression, r*pe, suicide and etc. I don’t think i’ve read much books that center around a dark or heavy topic but i think that as a person who has gone through these stuff, i can actually relate to and sympathize with the characters involved and etc. I just think that so much of the characters i have read are all able-bodied and have completely perfect mental health despite the setting they are in that sometimes it gets hard to relate, if you catch my gist. It’s also really nice to have some spotlight on these issues and potentially help those who can relate to it.

And finally, the last but not the least,

5) Magical Realism

I love magical realism and there’s really not much to say about this one other than that. I mean, a reason on why i love to read so much is because i love the aspect of escaping reality to go into a completely different world and magical realism stories just give me so much of that so, yes. (if you’re wondering why this gif, it’s because it’s a kind of symbol of the raven cycle)

That’s all i have for today and i’m sorry if it’s pretty short because i’m kinda tired, it’s been a long day, and an even longer one tomorrow, but i hope you guys have enjoyed reading this! Feel free to share below your favorite buzz words are.

Aristotle and Dante discover the secrets of the universe Review (Spoiler-free)

I do know that it has been quite some time since I last posted and I apologise. It’s just that it’s been a hectic week, being the first school week of the year and all that jazz, y’know? Many things to finish and start on, especially since this year is my last year so everything’s all over the place and I have to buck up tons to pass my final exams in November. I still want to squeeze in reading in my schedule as much as I can and blogging of course. Not only do I enjoy it, but I’m also discreetly practicing for my English exams by improving my English as I go on.

ANYWAY! On to the review!

Summary: Aristotle is an angry teen with a brother in prison. Dante is a know-it-all who has an unusual way of looking at the world. When the two meet at the swimming pool, they seem to have nothing in common. But as the loners start spending time together, they discover that they share a special friendship—the kind that changes lives and lasts a lifetime. And it is through this friendship that Ari and Dante will learn the most important truths about themselves and the kind of people they want to be.

I rated it 5 🐳 / 5 🐳

I cannot even begin to explain how much I fell in love with this book and its characters.

It was a bit slow at first and it kind of worried me that I would not be able to get into it as much as I hoped, but I was captivated by the middle of the book. I loved it, I loved it, I loved it, I loved it. The writing, though it took me some time to get used to, was beautiful in a way I don’t really know what. It was simple but at the same time meaningful and I eventually loved it by the end. So much so, in fact, that I now have almost his every other book on my tbr list. I probably won’t get into them now or this year, but sometime in the future, definitely. It’s very lyrical and the flow of the speech and the transition of the scenes were just really smooth and I really appreciated that.

The story itself was very refreshing, especially since it’s  1) From a boy’s point of view (Most of the books I’ve read are from a girl’s POV) and 2) Sexuality was a big theme in the book.

I haven’t read any books that have sexuality as one of the main themes, much less exploring and discovering their sexuality, and also have a point of view from someone exploring their sexuality. I feel like this is a big, huge plus for me because I’m at the same point of my life where , you know, I’m exploring my sexuality. It helps a lot that the characters were my age, or at least for the first half, and I could just somehow relate to a lot of what Ari, the main character, thought and felt. I know there are a lot of other books out there that have characters around my age too, I mean clary was 15/16 in the first mortal instruments book right? But a lot of them are fantasy or something similar so I can’t really relate much to them because their world and my world is different and they’re going through stuff that I haven’t and never will experience so it’s really different and refreshing to have characters like Ari and Dante who are in the same world as I am, though different time periods, and are going through things that are very similar to what I am going through. Things I can actually relate to and think back to when I go through them or when I went through them. The pace of the story was quite slow but that’s the way it’s supposed to be plus it’s contemporary so I was okay with it, I actually really liked it. It’s a nice break from the fast paced Harry Potter books I read last month.

The characters, oh god, I absolutely adored them. All of them. Ari, Dante, Gina, Susie, Mr and Mrs Quintana and Mr and Mrs Mendoza. I just want to hug each and every one of them and hold them in my arms and just be with them. They’ve grown so close to my heart and, I don’t know, they just feel so real. Like they are actual real life people, and that’s another part of why I really loved this book.

The character development in this book was excellent, realistic and suited their personalities. Moody Ari with his constant brooding and misery growing up to becoming more open and accepting things and just growing up. Bright, compassionate Dante with his wit, intelligence, confidence in himself and loveable nature that just makes it literally impossible to not love him, even though there are times where he can push things a little bit for Ari but that’s his job as Ari’s best friend, you know? He’s the opposite of Ari but also his other half. He’s what Ari wishes he was more of, even if he doesn’t really think so sometimes, and Ari is what Dante needs to keep him grounded.

Ari’s relationship with his parents and how it slowly improved, especially with his father, touched me very much and both broke my heart and made it feel all warm and happy. Dante’s healthy relationship with his parents was also very nice and amusing to see, since he was much closer to them than Ari was with his, and then both of their parents’ friendships especially Mr Mendoza and Mr Quintana (gee, look at me being all polite and calling him Mr Quintana, hah). It’s nice to see the parents having a healthy relationship with their children and admitting their mistake and just having nice, long, meaningful talks or amusing banters. They had their flaws, who the heck didn’t anyway? , but the parents were very well written and i especially liked how they had character development as well and how they played a big role in the story.

Since most of the book shows their friendship in a sort-of platonic way, I’d say their friendship for the most part is one of my favourite friendships of all time. I just love how beautiful their friendship is and how they help each other to grow?

And then their eventual non-platonic relationship is also one of my favourites now like I swear, I legit cannot stop re-reading the last few pages because it was just so beautiful. It was heart breaking at some points, especially for Dante, I felt so bad for him, but also so beautiful and it’s realistic and just.

I could go on for days, but I’ll just end this with an I want the book in Dante’s point of view now, or soon. Really though, Benjamin, I need this in my life. Please. I beg you.

On the other hand, I would also like to thank Benjamin Alire Saenz for creating this beautiful masterpiece and giving me, i mean us all, the chance to meet such beautiful characters and experience such an amazing book.

tumblr_mcfmi6AO7J1re3x32o1_250 (I’m actually lowkey laughing at how accurate this gif is)

That’s all for this review. I’ll maybe be posting a more spoiler-y one with a lot more gushing soon, it depends on how busy i’ll be for the next few weeks, really. I will for sure be posting on Wednesday or Thursday though as i’ll be participating in my very first T5W!

January TBR

This will be my first TBR on this blog and also, of this year. Quite honestly, this year would be quite chaotic for me as it’s my last year in high school and i can’t guarantee that i’ll be able to read much or be in the mood to but hopefully, this blog + my good reads reading goal would spur me on and motivate me to read more books.

Anyway, on to the TBR!

The first book that’s on the list is something i have already decided last month when i received the gift vouchers that my Sister got for me for Christmas. I used them last night to buy this book and the book i’m talking about is Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe by Benjamin Alire Saenz. It’s about two boys named Aristotle and Dante, as seen from the title, who meet one day at a swimming pool and what seems like an unlikely friendship starts to grow from then on and they discover things about themselves that they didn’t know before on the way.

I’ve heard so much great stuff about this book and the fact that one of the main themes is sexuality, possibly the characters figuring out their sexuality, just makes the book even more appealing to me and i honestly can’t wait to get into it.

Goodreads page for this book:

The next book is a debut book by a new author that came out recently and i’ve been hearing about it from the booktubers i have subscribed to on youtube a lot. The plot has me intrigued and the fact that it’s a book that focuses a lot on female friendships already has me hooked. There are honestly not much books that i know of that have really good female frienships, most usually include a boy-girl relationship (romantic and/or platonic) or female rivalry. Just thinking about it lowkey makes me annoyed.

This book is Truthwitch by Susan Dennard. It is the first book in the Witchlands series, i am unsure if it is going to be a trilogy but it’s definitely a series.

From what i know, it is about two women who are a special kind of witch. One of them, Safi, is a truthwitch and she can tell for sure the difference between the lies that people tell and the truth. I think that this is such a cool power and it can be so helpful in so many situations, especially in a setting like the one in this book, i would assume as many people are hunting Safi for being a truthwitch. Safi meets Iseult, a threadwitch who can see the bonds between people, and they form (again) an unlikely friendship. (Is it just me or do i seem like i’m into unlikely friendships recently? Hah, i blame gimli and legolas.)

I haven’t got the book yet but i’ll hopefully be able to get it by the end of this week or next week. I really really do want to read it and get into it as i have high hopes for it.

 Goodreads page for this book:

The third book in my TBR list is a book that i’ve been wanting to read since last year but never really got into actually reading it, honestly i don’t even know why but i’ve just been putting it off. BUT! Not this time. This time, i’m going to actually read it because the movie is coming out and i’d very much like to read the book before watching the movie. I know there have been quite a mix of reviews on it but my most trusted booktubers that i subscribe to love it and i’ve never really disliked or hated a book that they recommended so i’m keeping my fingers crossed on this one. Plus, it’s about aliens so hoo rah!

This book is The 5th wave by Rick Yancey.

For this book, i only really know that it’s all about aliens and some kind of apocalypse and honestly, i’d prefer my knowledge to be just that. So, here’s a part of the sypnosis which i find is intriguing enough for me to be compelled to read it.

‘After the 1st wave, only darkness remains.

After the 2nd, only the lucky escape.

And after the 3rd, only the unlucky survive.

After the 4th wave, only one rule applies: trust no one.’

I haven’t bought this book either but i’ll be borrowing it from the library soon once it becomes available because apparently everyone else wants to read it too so all the copies have been taken but fingers crossed that they’ll be returned soon.

Goodreads page for this book:

Only three books, i know how it looks, but because it’s the start of the year and a new school year, i can’t really be sure i’d be able to read a lot so i’m going to thread carefully for now.

So, there’s this great site called where you can sign up for free and request to read books (in ebook format) before they are published and in return, you must give a review on the book. Cool, right? So a month ago, i was bored and discovered it as i was scrolling through my twitter timeline (my @ is below of the post, just saying) when i came across this and thought why the heck not. So, i went and signed up and looked at books i could request until i finally decided on one. Recently, they have finally gotten back to me and i was pleased to see that the author approved of my request! What book is it? Why, it’s Scardust by Suzanne van Rooyen (Thanks suzanne and her team for accepting my request, if you ever see this).

It’s a new adult book with LGBTQIA+ as one of the main themes and not only that, but it apparently includes Mars too! The sypnosis tells of a young man named Raleigh who made a promise to his brother to scatter his ashes on the moon (Same, raleigh’s brother, same) and on the journey, he meets someone whom i assume is extremely handsome or intriguing or just both and who he calls Meteor Man because of the way Raleigh found him. If you want to see the full sypnosis, you can head over to the goodreads page and check it out but it sounds really cool to me and i’m quite excited to read it.

Goodreads page for this book:

So, yes, now that makes it four books in my january TBR. Hopefully, i get to read ALL of them but we’ll see.

That’s all for now, Byeeeee!

New Years Tag

Since it is the New year’s, i thought it was only appropriate if i did a new years related book tag just right before the new year comes along! This book tag is made by Little Red Reader on youtube last year but i decided to make some tweaks here and there because it was meant for 2014. This is the original video :

Anyway, let’s move on to the tag, shall we?

  • Midnight: What book kept you up all night until you finished in 2015?

I think i’ll go with Raven Boys of the Raven Cycle for this question because it’s one of the books that i finished in one sitting and i could not just put down because it was that good, at least to me.

  • Fireworks: What was your favorite book you read in 2015?

A lot of books popped up in my list of favorite books this year but i’ve got to give this crown to Harry potter.

  • New Year’s Kiss: What was your favorite book romance of 2015?

  • Countdown: What is your most anticipated release in 2016?

I don’t really have much anticipated releases in 2016 as i assume i’ll probably be really busy through out but! I’m really excited for Lady midnight by Cassandra clare because i really want to see how /this/ forbidden love plays out, Passenger by Alexandra Bracken is another one that i’ve heard people raving about so i’m pretty excited to go and pick it up and Truthwitch. But i think, the book that i’m going to pick up the day it releases would be the Raven King. I MUST know what happens and i just can’t wait to get my hands on it!

  • Resolutions: What genre do you want to try and read more of in 2016?

I’d love to read more historical fiction (in hopes of maybe improving or making me more motivated for my History and Social studies next year) and sci-fi or high fantasy.

  • Auld Lang Syne: What’s a book you’ve read so many times it’s practically a pastime?

I don’t really like to re-read books because i get bored easily and i don’t like to do things twice so i’ll have to skip this question.

  • Time’s Square Ball Drop: Everyone’s tuning in, what book do you want to recommend others read in 2016?

The raven cycle series!! It has become my second favorite book series and it’s very unique and magical to me, i just love the aura of the books and the characters. It’s one of the books that you’ll either love or just not be interested in though so thread with caution.

That’s all for now, Byeeeee!

End Of The Year Survey 2015 Edition!

This post will be, just as what the title says, an end of the year survey that is created by Jamie over in If you see this, thank you for creating a brilliant survey!

The link to the survery will be here:

Moving on to the survey,

Number Of Books You Read: 28 though there were some that i read but don’t remember so not counting those! (I know it’s really low but i underwent a bad reading slump this year which i only made up for during the holidays)

Number of Re-Reads: I don’t do re-reads oops.

Genre You Read The Most From: YA fantasy or Contemporary, either one of these two really.

1. Best Book You Read In 2015?

Hands down, Harry potter.

2. Book You Were Excited About & Thought You Were Going To Love More But Didn’t?

Ready player one by ernest cline.

 3. Most surprising (in a good way or bad way) book you read?

A song of ice and fire series by George R.R. Martin. It was very thick and i didn’t expect to actually like it much or even finish it, but i did. I got through the first book and i’m halfway through the second book which i hope to finish by next year so i can just finish the whole series overall.

 4. Book You “Pushed” The Most People To Read (And They Did)?

I didn’t really push much books to my friends and i never bug them whether they’ve read it either but i think one of the books that i recommended a lot this year was the books from The Raven Cycle.

 5. Best series you started in 2015? Best Sequel of 2015? Best Series Ender of 2015?

Harry potter, harry potter, Harry potter.

 6. Favorite new author you discovered in 2015?

Ransom riggs, definitely.

7. Best book from a genre you don’t typically read/was out of your comfort zone?

Slasher girls and monster boys i guess because i don’t usually read collection of stories type of books and this was my first and most of it was pretty good.

 8. Most action-packed/thrilling/unputdownable book of the year?

Harry potter. But if you want a book that got released this year, then Library of Souls by Ransom riggs.

 9. Book You Read In 2015 That You Are Most Likely To Re-Read Next Year?

Again, I don’t like to reread books but if i had to pick, i think i’d like to reread harry potter again. But this time, only until prisoner of azkaban. I can’t bear to re-read order of the phoenix. A book that has been on my mind to re-read though is either one of the infernal devices or mortal instruments series.

10. Favorite cover of a book you read in 2015?

Blue lily Blue by Maggie Stiefvater.

11. Most memorable character of 2015?

Sirius Padfoot Snuffles Black.

 12. Most beautifully written book read in 2015?

A monster calls by Patrick Ness.

13. Most Thought-Provoking/ Life-Changing Book of 2015?

I’m going to prevent myself from answering Harry potter for this one so i’ll go with Paper towns by John Green. It wasn’t life-changing or anything dramatic like that but it did make me reflect for quite some time after reading it.

 14. Book you can’t believe you waited UNTIL 2015 to finally read?

 15. Favorite Passage/Quote From A Book You Read In 2015?

I have so much, how do you expect me to choose just one?

There was this particular scene in Blue, lily, Blue where adam’s like, “I don’t want to talk.” and ronan just replied with “the fuck would i talk about?” and i don’t know but that just made me laugh so hard and is one of my favorite parts of the book that my mind drifts to whenever i think of it.

Another one would be by sirius in PoA when remus comes bursting in and confronts him and he’s like “Well, you’d know all about the madness within, wouldn’t you, Remus?” and i just squealed so hard at that because that was the moment i decided to ship wolfstar.

16.Shortest & Longest Book You Read In 2015?

Harry potter and the order of the phoenix for the longest book seeing as it has 870 pages and A monster calls for having just 215 pages.

 17. Book That Shocked You The Most

We were liars by E. Lockhart.

18. OTP OF THE YEAR (you will go down with this ship!)

19. Favorite Non-Romantic Relationship Of The Year

Arya and Jon?

20. Favorite Book You Read in 2015 From An Author You’ve Read Previously

I’ll go with a stand alone instead of a sequel by the same author so, Paper towns by John green.

21. Best Book You Read In 2015 That You Read Based SOLELY On A Recommendation From Somebody Else/Peer Pressure:

We were liars by E. Lockhart.

22. Newest fictional crush from a book you read in 2015?

Sirius Black, Ronan lynch, Noah Cyzerny, Newt, Minho…

23. Best 2015 debut you read?

I don’t think i’ve actually read a 2015 debut this year because of the aforementioned reading slump i was in.

24. Best Worldbuilding/Most Vivid Setting You Read This Year?

Again, i’m gonna prevent myself from saying harry potter, and go with Miss peregrine’s.

25. Book That Put A Smile On Your Face/Was The Most FUN To Read?

Harry potter and the sorcerer’s stone.

26. Book That Made You Cry Or Nearly Cry in 2015?

A monster calls by patrick ness.

27. Hidden Gem Of The Year?

I don’t really know what to put for this so i’ll just have to skip it.

28. Book That Crushed Your Soul?

Harry potter and the Order of the phoenix, i really can’t put anything else here.

29. Most Unique Book You Read In 2015?

Raven boys by Maggie Stiefvater.

30. Book That Made You The Most Mad (doesn’t necessarily mean you didn’t like it)?

Harry potter and the order of the phoenix. I just. I can’t put any other book in these type of categories.

(as you can see, i will be skipping one category here as i just started recently so i can’t fill up any of it)

1. One Book You Didn’t Get To In 2015 But Will Be Your Number 1 Priority in 2016?

Aristotle and Dante discover the secrets of the universe.

2. Book You Are Most Anticipating For 2016 (non-debut)?

Raven king of the Raven Cycle series.

3. 2016 Debut You Are Most Anticipating?

This is where it ends by Marieke Nijkamp.

4. Series Ending/A Sequel You Are Most Anticipating in 2016?

Again, the raven king.

5. One Thing You Hope To Accomplish Or Do In Your Reading/Blogging Life In 2016?

Post more frequently in this blog and read more books and catch up with the times, you know?

I may have missed out some questions or a category but it’s only because i found myself not being able to answer any of it so i hope this would suffice as my first survey. I hope that by the time this time next year comes around, i’ll be able to fill out everything with ease and have more books in mind.

That’s all for now, byeeee!

Harry Potter Review

I am back, just as i said though probably not on time, with my harry potter review which i have just finished recently, like two days ago or so. This is not really going to be a long review post because, i mean, come on. What more is there to say other than it’s amazing and definitely worth the hype.

I rate it 10000 🐳  / 5 🐳

There’s really no going any lower than that. I loved all of the books and the characters just felt so real and connecting with them, especially harry, is not a very difficult task. I found myself being able to relate to harry so much in Order of the phoenix where he was just mostly angry and angsty and the pain at the end that he suffered, i felt it too. I also found, after reading these books, my most favorite fictional character of all time (Sirius Black).

Though i can say that there is a lack of representation in the book despite the whole book really being about diversity, the imagination of the appearances of the characters are still up to the reader and to me, all of them are POCs except maybe the weasleys because them being ginger is kind of their trademark but either way, they’re all great.

Except severus snape. I absolutely loath him and everything he is. I don’t agree with anything he says or does and i just don’t know how anyone can glorify him or put him in some positive light when really, he’s not a brave character at all. There was nothing remotely brave about him. I don’t know what JK Rowling was doing, naming harry’s son over him, but he’s just detestable and it’s all his fault that his whole mess happened with harry. He might have loved lily at the start but let’s be real, it became obsessive and unhealthy towards the later part and the fact that he’d sacrifice her husband and her one year old son for her is not romantic at all. He’s just outright creepy and greasy and disgusting and obsessive. Jily > Snily all the freakin way!

I loved ginny’s character development from Order of the phoenix onwards. She’s such a great, out spoken, witty character and i’m so glad she ended up with harry because she deserves to be happy and have all the love she deserves in the world. I just love how she doesn’t take anyone’s shit, from her brothers to harry and even to Hermione. And yet, she understands when to step back like how she stepped back with her relationship with harry even though she didn’t want to and trust me, as much as i love hermione, i just find ginny to be a better suit with harry. I could go on with this, but alas, i’ll leave it for another day.

I don’t want to go on full details about the personalities and character growth about the characters here because it’ll become quite long winded but perhaps i’ll make one some other day, i don’t know.

I have to say though, my favorite book initially was Prisoner of Azkaban but now that i’ve actually read all of it, i have to say Deathly Hallows would be a very close second. I just love all the action and thick plot line in deathly hallows and i especially loooved the story of the Hallows and all that jazz. It’s so interesting and i’d love to go on a quest for the Hallows too. My only complaint with Deathly hallows would be all the deaths that were so unnecessary and too painful to bear and the ending where harry named his youngest son Albus Severus like.. what kind of ugly name is that? Out of all the names you could’ve chosen? Like maybe rubeus regulus or something? Yikes. Anyway, as much as i love those two, the book that had the most impact on me though was Order of the phoenix. Mostly because it was very angsty and like i said, i could relate to harry the most in this book, but also because it made me cry for two straight days and until now, i’m still not over it. Thinking about it already makes me tear up and want to shred my head and heart into pieces.

Anyway, that’ll be all for my review. I’ll be posting some more later today or tomorrow about my favorite books in 2015 and goals in 2016 and some tags too.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens Review

So, as many of you should know, the new Star Wars movie came out recently and because I’ve recently gotten into Star Wars, I went and watched it. Now, I know this blog is supposed to be a book blog but I decided, why not just include movies since I’m not really a big movie fan anyway so there won’t really be much. Maybe I could make this a monthly thing like a The Movie of the Month every 24th… That honestly doesn’t sound like a bad idea.

ANYWAY, enough with the rambling. Here is my review on Star Wars. I’ll divide it into two parts, a non-spoiler one and a spoilery one at the bottom so don’t worry!

I rated the movie 4.5 🐳 / 5 🐳

Non-spoiler review:

The film being a Star Wars film by itself already earns it at least three whales in my book and another whale for just being better than the prequels. The only thing stopping me from giving it five whales are the plot holes that are quite evident if you think about it and that certain scene but nonetheless, the movie was spot on awesome and hands down one of the best films this year. Not just because it was a Star Wars film, but also because of the way it was made, produced, filmed and etc. It was just so good I’m actually considering of watching it again and I’m not usually the type to read or watch things twice. I highly recommend you to watch this movie even if you don’t like Star Wars because of the previous films because THIS one is guaranteed to be a movie you won’t be hesitant to fall in love with.

The plot, though having some holes here and there, was enough to have me gripping my seat and leaning towards the screen throughout while still having an air of mystery that will just makes you so curious to find out what’s going to happen in the next movie and what the backstory of the characters are and what really is the deal with them.

The characters were very well written and played out, and of course the original cast were as amazing as ever. I am really glad that they diversified the world even with the extras. It’s very nice that one of the biggest, if not the biggest, franchises ever are taking a step towards being more inclusive with having POCs take on a bigger, more important role (Lando’s great but it should never just stop at one) and also, WOMEN. Don’t even get me started on Rey’s character because dear god, I am so in love. For what seemed like centuries, Leia has been known very widely as the iconic badass female character.

Don’t get me wrong, I love Padme and she’s just as awesome in her own ways, but the prequels not exactly being as well made as the original trilogy, Leia is much more well-known and seen as a role model for kids and adults alike. But now, with this new continuity of the story, Rey has inevitably become a new addition to the list of iconic badass female characters.

I just think it’s so great how JJ made Rey this awesome character who is very independent and strong physically, mentally and emotionally. Most of the time, she was the one saving Finn from all the troubles they encounter and isn’t that just sweet? You can also see how compassionate of a person she is by the way she chose to accompany BB-8 and try to convince Finn on doing certain things that she knew was for everyone’s benefit.

The best thing about Rey’s character though, is how JJ didn’t exactly emphasize on her being a girl. It was just there for you to see, but there wasn’t any emphasis on her being a girl because being a girl was just a part of her. Being a girl is not what she is, it’s just a part of her like how being male is a part of male characters. Her character traits and story were much more focused on and there were no “Oh, but she’s a girl” moments of anything and I think, a girl, that is one of the best things that has ever happened in Film History. She’s a very empowering character overall for us who identify as girls and have been subjected to centuries of movies either objectifying us or are filled with internalized misogyny and put down and etcetera.

I could go on and on about Rey for ages but I’ll leave it to another time and actually move on about other things.

Finn was also a great character who really did balance the comical relief of the movie with all the seriousness going on. Most of the times I laughed during the movie were because of him, so props to him for being the perfect balance of a comical relief and a strong, vital character.

There wasn’t a lot of Poe so I can’t really comment much on his character other than him being extremely adorable and very nice. (I also cannot post a gif of him without it being spoilery, I think, so I’m sorry!) And also, finally a Hispanic man in the galaxy! I was beginning to think whether they even existed in that world. Glad to know they do.

All in all, I think I really like the new golden trio and I’m looking forward to what more they have to offer and what more are they going to go and how they’re going to do it together. I’m really loving them and the movie definitely lived up to its hype.

The cast were full of great actors and actresses, and like what I have mentioned, more diversity is included (Lupita O’nyong anybody?!) and just thinking about it makes me so goddamned happy. I love the cast, they’re all amazing, funny people and I’ve said this so many times already but I need more of them as their characters. It’s just simply not enough. I need the next movie ASAP.

That’s all for the non-spoiler review I guess. Below will be the spoiler one so unless you have watched the movie, I suggest you to just stop reading now and go somewhere else. I’ll be posting more content soon as I’m finishing the harry potter books and also, I’m thinking of doing some end-of-year and a new year’s goals or something so look forward to that and yeah, that’s all! Go watch the movie! Totally worth it! What are you doing not watching it yet anyway?!

Ok, so here I will FINALLY be able to rant about my emotions on the film. My god, what a wild ride it was.

(BB-8 in that gif was literally how I felt was happening to me throughout the movie honestly.)

The movie started with Poe getting the information on Luke’s whereabouts an yadda yadda, he gets captured and mind tortured by Kylo ren until he gives him the information they want.

And then the start of the most amazing relationship between characters in this new story happened.

Finn/Poe or also known as, Stormpilot.

I mean come on, Poe gives Finn his name after knowing each other for like, five minutes, and is actually the first person to acknowledge him as a person and not just a number. This alone brings great happiness to my heart.

And then suddenly Poe dies and a small part of me died too but hey, I kept believing because unless there’s no physical body, then there’s no death, right? 🙂

And lo and behold, he really does come back later on in the movie and god help me, my shipper heart just exploded with unholy emotions at their reunion scene. It was when I thought, Poe couldn’t possibly be completely straight or even just straight, at all. He just couldn’t be. And if he is, then JJ really needs to sort his shit out and set things straight (or for this case, curly.)

Just the way Poe looks at Finn is enough to tell me. If Poe and Finn don’t end up being canon, I’m going to be really mad and probably write some kind of petition. It’s just not possible for stormpilot to not be canon. It just isn’t.

I also really liked the part when Finn meets Rey and they’re running from the storm troopers finding them and Finn just keeps holding Rey’s hand while she’s just like “stop holding my hand wtf” and even though it was supposed to be like a serious scene because they’re escaping and everything’s exploding and stuff, I couldn’t help but laugh because it was really cute. Rey didn’t need Finn holding her hand but Finn definitely needed it and Finn is just so cute.

I may have shipped them for, like a scene or two, but then I decided halfway in the movie that their relationship was probably more familial and platonic than romantic and Finn and Poe were a much better ship to ship but hey, they’re still cute. I just think Rey, Finn and Poe as a trio is so good and I need more of them because they’re all such great characters and just so cute. Not to mention the actors themselves are very cute and close behind the scenes too with john calling daisy peanut and stuff. How much cuter can they get, honestly?

And then hanleia happened and everything just. Hurt.

Hanleia just made me feel all sorts of things and I could very well relate to C3PO in IV.

Seriously though?! Can they just give me a break?

Before Star Wars I had just finished Order of the Phoenix and let me tell you, I spent two days crying and until now, the wound has not closed and I am still very affected of what has happened and then this happened and I’m just.

Can everyone stop dying? Please? Can creators just stop killing characters off, like it’s freakin’ Christmas for god’s sake. It’s supposed to be a jolly time, not a mourning-for-fictional-characters time!!

Sigh. I’m never going to get over these, it’s just something you have to learn to live with forever.

Speaking of forever, Kylo ren just made it to my list of characters I do not fancy at all in any type of way. What he did was just plain unforgivable. One does not just kill han solo and get away with it liked?! This number one Vader ass licking piece of emo shit needs to get his issues fixed and just. Grow up. You will never be like Anakin; you will never be the second Vader. He’s dead already and he will never notice or acknowledge you so just move on already; your emo teen rebel phase needs to come to an end.

On a much heavier note, Leia. I cannot even explain how much my heart cried for her because goddamn she is constantly going through really tough, heartbreaking stuff and yet she always has to stay strong for everybody else especially now as her new role of the general. Her face when she felt han die made a part of me die too because shit, I can’t even imagine how hard it must’ve been for her. They’ve been separated for years and now they finally have the chance to reunite, he dies and she’s just there. All alone. Because he’s dead, her son insists on following his grandfather’s footsteps and her twin is missing. Great. Just great. Yet, throughout all of this, she still guides the rebel alliance and she still gives Rey encouragement and I just… She is not the Leia Organa/Skywalker/Solo that everybody looks up to for nothing. My heart breaks for her but I also admire her for all the same reasons. There’s just no reason to not love Leia and Leia deserves all the love and appreciation in the world.

I talked about Rey quite a lot in my non-spoiler review so I guess I’ll have to keep it short this time. The plot holes I mentioned earlier on included Rey. It’s probably something that will be filled in once her backstory is showed, but I just can’t seem to quite understand how fast Rey learnt on how to use the force? Like the lightsaber, I can excuse because she wields a staff so I assume she has enough practice with that to be able to handle a lightsaber well and for Finn… I guess because he was a storm trooper? Honestly, I don’t know but I just want more explanation on why Rey knows so much about the force and how she knows and how she learnt it so fast. I mean Luke did learn the force pretty fast too but nonetheless, he was still shown trained by Obiwan and Yoda so what about Rey? I’m really intrigued and I think, I hope, this is something that is fleshed out more and explained in the next movie. I really really want to know what happened in Rey’s childhood and what exactly is her relations with Luke. Is she really Luke’s daughter or what?

Other than that, I really did enjoy the fight scenes in the movie, the lightsaber scenes in particular, and it’s definitely now one of my favorite movies.

That’s all for this I guess? So… yeah. Until the next time!
